   Gerald Nelson DDS

Dr. Gerald Nelson graduated from UCSF with an orthodontic specialty degree in 1965, and then spent 2.5 years in the Air Force, stationed in Athens, Greece. Part of each week, he serves as a Clinical Professor for the UCSF Orthodontic Division, supervising patient care and lecturing since 1995. He is co-founder of the orthodontic teaching clinic, La Clinica de La Raza in Oakland. He has published many articles in dental literature, and is co-author of an orthodontic textbook. He is editor of the orthodontic journal, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists Bulletin. In 2002, Dr. Nelson received a service award from the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, the ‘PCSO Award of Merit’.

Dr. Nelson and his wife, Pamela Grove, have raised six children in Berkeley.

 

   Michael Meyer DDS

Dr. Michael Meyer received his orthodontic specialty degree in 1972 from UCSF. He was immediately invited to join the UCSF orthodontic faculty, where he has served since graduation as a Clinical Professor, teaching growth and development and the treatment of young patients. He serves on the Oakland Children's Hospital Cranio-Facial panel, and is the former co-director of the orthodontic teaching clinic at La Clinica de La Raza in Oakland. Dr. Meyer has also served as foreign journal editor for the premier orthodontic journal, the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. He is the former Chairman of the Library Advisory Committee of the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Meyer and his wife, Christina, have two sons, Joshua, an international attorney who resides in France and Christopher, a Harvard graduate student.

 

   Paul Kasrovi DDS, MS

Dr. Paul Kasrovi completed his doctoral and postdoctoral education at UCSF, receiving both a specialty certificate in orthodontics and a Master of Science degree in oral biology. Before making a career change to dentistry, Paul had received a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and worked as a systems engineer for AT&T Bell Laboratories. Dr. Kasrovi was invited to join the orthodontic faculty at UCSF in 1995 as an Assistant Clinical Professor where has been teaching orthodontic residents as well as dental students. He is currently a clinical supervisor at the orthodontic teaching clinic at La Clinica de La Raza in Oakland. Dr. Kasrovi serves as Chairman of the Continuing Education Committee of the California Association of Orthodontists (CAO) and assistant program Chair of the central component of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO). He is an active member of the California Dental Association (CDA) and serves on the Board of the Berkeley Dental Society. Dr. Kasrovi and his wife, Leila, have a son, Dara and a daughter, Kiana.

 

   Claire Ferrari DDS, MSD

Dr. Ferrari grew up in Hunterdon County, New Jersey where she enjoyed participating in her father’s orthodontic practice, working many summers from the ages of 12-25. She received her dental degree from the University of Michigan and later completed her orthodontic training at the University of Washington in Seattle. She completed a three-year post-graduate fellowship in craniofacial anomalies at UCSF in 1999, and was an assistant clinical professor in the Division of Orthodontics until the arrival of her third child in 2003. She is a member of the craniofacial anomalies team at Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Dr. Ferrari has traveled extensively, living in Ireland teaching dentistry at Trinity College, and has been on volunteer missions treating patients with facial deformities in Nepal and Chile. Dr. Ferrari enjoys living in Berkeley with her husband Chris and their three young (adorable, energetic) children, Kai and Eva and Gabriel.

 

   Min-Jeong Kim DDS, MSD

Dr. Min-Jeong Kim received her undergraduate and dental degree at Seoul National University in Seoul, South Korea. She received her Certificate in Orthodontics and Masters in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. Through our faculty position and teaching responsibilities at UCSF, we have had the opportunity to get to know Dr. Kim for the past three years during her orthodontic residency. During her residency, she also participated in treating patients at La Clinica Dela Raza with Dr. Kasrovi and Ung. Dr. Kim’s Masters’ research involved studying the effects of the Cetlin appliance, an orthodontic retainer appliance, on teeth and the jaw structures. Drs. Nelson, Kasrovi and Meyer were heavily involved in this research project. Dr. Kim has traveled extensively and has lived an international life, including several years in London, Chile, Germany and Korea. She currently lives in San Francisco and is enjoying the experience in the Bay area.

 

   Nancy Ung DMD, MSD

Dr. Nancy Ung is a native of the Bay Area and returned to practice here since receiving her Master of Science in Dentistry and specialty certificate in orthodontics from the University of Washington. Prior to this, she earned her dental degree and Master of Public Health at Harvard University and her undergraduate degree from Stanford. She has been an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF since 1996 where she lectures and supervises patient care for the orthodontic residents. She has published numerous articles in the Medical and Dental literature and serves on the Editorial Board of the two major orthodontic journals: the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and the Angle Orthodontist. She has received numerous awards and Fellowships for her past research. She also is the Component Liaison for new members for the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO). Dr. Ung has also volunteered her services at the evening teaching clinic at La Clinica de La Raza in Oakland since 1989.
